Cycle in an eco-friendly way and drink tap water.
There’s nothing like a refreshing drink during a relaxing break at one of the many bike-friendly spots along the RuhrtalRadweg! But what about staying hydrated while riding? Every five seconds, 1,400 single-use plastic mineral water bottles end up in the trash. The RuhrtalRadweg wants to play an active role in preventing unnecessary plastic waste. Together with the nonprofit organization a tip: tap e.V. (English for “a tip: tap water”), which has been advocating for the use of tap water as drinking water for more than ten years, the RuhrtalRadweg has become the first tap-water-friendly long-distance bike trail!
At over 100 drinking fountains and refill stations provided by bike-friendly hosts along the route, you can refill your water bottle for free with refreshing, top-quality tap water for your ride—and thus make an active contribution to climate protection without sacrifice or effort, all while saving money. You’ll find these stations approximately every ten kilometers along the entire RuhrtalRadweg. Of course, we’re continuing to work on recruiting even more businesses as refill stations and on installing additional drinking fountains.
You can find all drinking stations along the RuhrtalRadweg here on the map and in the list below. The drinking stations are divided into these two types:
- Drinking fountains
- Publicly accessible, permanently installed drinking fountains
- Access may be temporarily restricted due to seasonal conditions or maintenance
- Refill stations
- Partner businesses along the RuhrtalRadweg where you can refill your bottles with tap water for free
- You can recognize them by the “Refill Station” sticker, e.g., on the front door
