The RuhrtalRadweg winds its way for over 14 km right through the heart of Mülheim, offering numerous opportunities for entertaining or exciting stops along the way: for example, at the new city harbor in downtown Mülheim, where you can take a relaxing break along the beautiful Ruhr promenade. The Aquarius Wassermuseum, housed in the historic, protected water tower and serving as an anchor point on the Route of Industrial Culture, is dedicated to the element of water in all its facets, and the Wasserbahnhof on Schleuseninsel is not only worth seeing but also serves as a dock for the excursion boats of the Weiße Flotte. Another industrial heritage highlight is the world’s largest walk-through Camera Obscura, featuring a museum on the prehistory of film. And Mülheim has plenty more to offer in terms of culture—for example, the Mülheim an der Ruhr Art Museum —one of the RuhrKunstMuseen—featuring masterpieces from the early 20th century, as well as the Ringlokschuppen and the renowned Theater an der Ruhr, both of which are institutions known far beyond the city limits.
