The RuhrtalRadweg team is currently working on various initiatives as part of the “New Target Groups” project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport using funds allocated for the implementation of the National Bicycle Traffic Plan. “New Target Groups”—what does that mean?
What is this project about?
The overarching goal is to get a broader audience excited about cycling and using bikes in everyday life. We want to reach groups of people who have received less attention in the marketing of cycling tourism offerings to date.
The focus is on families, who often struggle to find suitable child-friendly options; people with an immigrant background, who have so far been underrepresented in cycling tourism offerings; and the so-called “expeditive” demographic (according to the Sinus Institute), which seeks innovative and modern experiences.
In short:
We want to showcase the RuhrtalRadweg as young, vibrant, and diverse as the trail and the surrounding region are, and invite you to explore the wide range of attractions on both sides of the trail by bike! You can already find first impressions of the project in the tour guide. To stay up to date, feel free to follow us on Instagram and Facebook!
To mark the project’s launch in summer 2024, a cycling tourism evaluation was conducted along the RuhrtalRadweg, focusing on people with a migration background. The results can be viewed in the following report."
