What kinds of signs are there, and what do they look like?

The RuhrtalRadweg follows bike paths in the NRW bike trail network, which you can recognize by the typical red-and-white signage. There are different types of signs that can be found at various points along the route.

In addition to route signage, there is also tourist signage. City information signs point you to the most important sights, accommodations, and bike service shops in each town.

Where can I find which signs?

Main directional signs:

Throughout the NRW cycling network, you’ll find so-called arrow signs at all intersections where bike routes branch off, indicating destinations and distances.

Along the RuhrtalRadweg, our well-known logo should always be displayed as an insert plaque beneath these signs, indicating that you should follow this route.

Intermediate signposts:

Between these intersections, simply follow the neutral intermediate signs. They always mean: “All bike routes go this way”!

The RuhrtalRadweg logo is intentionally not displayed there, because on the vast majority of these sections, other bike routes with their own logos also run alongside it.

City Information Signs:

You’ll usually find the tourist city information signs at the entrances to towns or at other locations in the neighboring municipalities. In addition to a map of the respective city, they also contain further information such as points of interest and partner businesses like hotels, restaurants, bike service shops, etc.

What should you do if a sign is missing, twisted, or damaged?

Whether due to severe weather or vandalism, sometimes a sign no longer looks the way it should. If you come across a sign that’s twisted or dirty during your tour, we’d appreciate it if you could let us know. To do so, you’ll find a hotline number on every signpost bearing the RuhrtalRadweg logo, which you can use to report damaged or missing signage. Please also provide the cadastral number of the signpost. Your call helps keep the signage in good condition.
