Schwerte Mustard Mill

The Schwerter Senfmühle preserves a piece of Schwerte’s artisanal history. In late 1999, Frank Peisert and his family took over the historic grinding mechanisms and equipment from Wilhelm Adrian; along with them, the family recipe—which had been passed down only orally—was also handed down. What began as a hobby—an effort to save “good Schwerte mustard” from disappearing—has, through demand, word of mouth, and tastings, evolved into a staple of local culinary culture. Old mustard pots, photos, and personal stories complement the legacy surrounding Schwerte mustard. Inspired by customer suggestions, additional varieties were created that carry on the traditional recipe in a contemporary form.
