The Haniel Halden, one of the highest accessible elevations in the Ruhrgebiet, offers sweeping panoramic views of the industrial landscape. Art installations such as the totems and a Way of the Cross, which chronicles the history of mining, characterize the summit.

At 118 meters, the Haniel Halden is the tallest Halden in the Ruhrgebiet that is permanently accessible. From the Windkamm, visitors can enjoy impressive views of the region. The Halden is part of a Way of the Cross with 15 stations, which leads to the altar on the plateau and ends at a cross consecrated by Pope John Paul II. Basque artist Agustin Ibarrola created 100 totem poles out of railroad ties that soar toward the sky. The BergArena, an amphitheater, can seat about 800 people. The Halden was completed in 2001.
