Logo Arnsberg Tourismus

On this loop tour, which takes you from Arnsberg along the RuhrtalRadweg to Brilon and back to Arnsberg via the MöhnetalRadweg along the Möhne Dam, you’ll experience the diverse landscape of the Sauerland. In addition to charming towns offering plenty of cultural and leisurely moments, the loop tour features lush meadows and green forests—nature at its best!

Panoramablick über die Arnsberger Altstadt

Day 1: Arnsberg – Brilon (approx. 50 km)
Make your own way to Arnsberg and start the first stage directly along the RuhrtalRadweg toward the Hochsauerland region via Meschede, Bestwig, and Olsberg. From Olsberg, the route follows the “Ruhr Eder” GeoRadroute to Brilon. The climb from Olsberg to Brilon “is quite a challenge.” Here, you’ll need to “grit your teeth” and conquer the 6.7% gradient over 2.3 km. You’ll be rewarded with the beautiful Altstadt of Brilon. You’ll spend the night in a centrally located spot in Brilon, leaving you plenty of time to explore the Altstadt.

Day 2: Brilon – Möhnesee (approx. 50 km)
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll cycle along the MöhnetalRadweg to the southern shore of Lake Möhnesee, where you’ll spend your second night. This stage is about 50 km long and runs mostly on flat terrain along a former railroad right-of-way. Your destination, Lake Möhnesee, is one of the largest reservoirs in North Rhine-Westfalen.

Day 3: Möhnesee – Arnsberg (approx. 40 km)
Today, you’ll continue along the southern shore on the MöhnetalRadweg toward the dam. From here, you’ll enjoy a wonderful view of the lake before the route takes you through the Arnsberger Wald Nature Park to Arnsberg-Neheim. This is where the Möhnetalradweg ends, and you’ll cycle back to Arnsberg via the RuhrtalRadweg—the starting and ending point of this exciting round trip. You’ll spend one more night in Arnsberg. This gives you the chance to explore the historic Altstadt on one of the popular guided tours or on your own, wandering through the narrow alleys and past the half-timbered houses.
