The bridge sculpture Slinky Springs to Fame is located in the Kaisergarten Oberhausen, near the Westfield Centro and Gasometer. Since its opening in 2011, this pedestrian bridge has crossed the Rhine-Herne Canal to Emscher Island. A work by Frankfurt artist Tobias Rehberger, the structure presents itself as a filigree form that resembles an irregular rope stretched across the water. The name of the swinging spiral bridge, Slinky Springs to Fame, is inspired by the dynamic toy "Slinky" and comprises 496 aluminum arches. Long ramps are used to cross the canal, rising to a height of ten meters without stairs in bends and loops, extending the structure to a total length of 406 meters.
Slinky Springs to Fame is considered an architectural masterpiece in the Ruhrgebiet. The 2.50 meter wide plastic floor of the bridge displays changing colors, which create an impressive visual effect, especially when illuminated at night. The construction known as the Rehberger Bridge is a popular attraction due to its colorful appearance, especially after dark. However, the bridge is currently closed.
