The Ruhr Viaduct, a 313-meter-long sandstone structure, spans Lake Harkort at a height of nearly 30 meters between Herdecke and Hagen. This structure was built using approximately 24,000 cubic meters of quarry stone, which was primarily sourced from the surrounding Herdecke sandstone quarries. This engineering masterpiece, characterized by twelve semicircular arches, each with a span of 20 meters, was put into service in 1879.

The immediate vicinity of the Ruhr Viaduct offers a wide range of options for active recreation. Located at the head of Lake Harkort, the bridge serves as an integral part of the regional landscape and is directly connected to the RuhrtalRadweg.
