Assinghausen, a “Rose Village” in North Westfalen that has been certified since 2007, presents itself under the motto “One Village—One Big Garden.” More than 150 varieties of roses adorn public spaces and private gardens here, nestled against a picturesque backdrop of historic half-timbered houses. The four Rosenwege offer structured walking routes for exploring this floral splendor.

The “Heidetraum” trail (1.8 km), the longest of the routes, reveals the village’s morphological and design features from various perspectives. The “Maria Lisa” trail (1 km) showcases the grace of the rose along specific points of interest such as the ice cellar, where rose names like “Polar Sonne” and “Polar Eis” allude to the plants’ hardy nature. The “Flammentanz” trail (0.6 km) winds through alleys characterized by historic half-timbered buildings and a particularly dense concentration of rose plantings. Finally, the “Rosa Sancta” trail (1.1 km), named after the Holy Rose, takes visitors to religious sites such as the Küsterlandkapelle, the Mount of Olives Grotto and the Mariengrotte, as well as St. Catherine’s Church, complemented by the Monastery Garden and the Romantic Garden at the granary.
