It's best to grab a notepad, because here's a packed program:
In the past, skippers and sailors enjoyed this little place, but today it is a home and meeting place for artists and creatives. But tourists don't want to miss out on this idyll either and find their way here.
Now to the program:
The harbour tour is an absolute must. The huge ships from all over the world handle their cargo here - you can admire the 20,000 ships that call at the Port of Duisburg every year. We also recommend a visit to the Inland Navigation Museum in the former Art Nouveau indoor swimming pool. If you stop by here before the tour, you can of course boast about your knowledge later in the port.
There is also plenty of culture beyond shipping. Anyone strolling through the district will find regular concerts or readings in pubs and cafés, as well as plenty of galleries and studios.
For a little more thrill, you can also follow in the footsteps of crime scene detective Schimanski. Duisburg's port district has enjoyed many film appearances, including in other crime series starring Klaus Löwitsch as the port detective or Maren Kroymann as inland shipping company owner Vera Wesskamp.
If you have the chance, you should time your visit to coincide with the annual port festival. For four days, the funfair and stage shows attract thousands of visitors to the harbor district. The regular highlight is undoubtedly the Ruhrort in Flames fireworks display.
Well then, full speed ahead to Ruhrort!
