Discover the Sauerland: Visitor Mine – Hennesee – SauerlandRadring

The two most beautiful and well-known bike trails in the Sauerland are waiting for you.
In Ramsbeck, ride 1.5 km into the mountain on an original mine train and experience mining history 300 m underground. Enjoy a boat ride on the MS Hennesee during your bike tour along the new northern loop of the SauerlandRadring. The three stages are easily manageable for riders of moderate fitness.

Day 1: Winterberg – Bestwig or Meschede (30–40 km)
From Bestwig or Meschede, take the train to Winterberg to begin your tour on the RuhrtalRadweg at the source of the Ruhr River. After 30 km through the beautiful Ruhrtal, you’ll reach Bestwig. Here, it’s worth taking a detour along the Bähnchentrasse (6 km) to the Ramsbeck Visitor Center, where a real miner will explain what working underground was like in the past. Return along the Bähnchentrasse to Bestwig and then to your lodging.

Day 2: Bestwig or Meschede – Arnsberg or Wickede (30–60 km)
From your lodging, you’ll set off toward Freienohl and ride on to Arnsberg or Wickede. Before you make the relaxed return trip by train, you can enjoy a stroll through Arnsberg’s historic Altstadt or the beautiful town center of Wickede with its spacious green spaces.

Day 3: Meschede – Wennemen – Sallinghausen – Hennesee – Meschede (40 km)
You’ll cycle to Wennemen. Here, turn left onto the new Nordschleife. This 40-km circular bike route connects the RuhrtalRadweg and the SauerlandRadring, running from Wennemen to Eslohe and Sallinghausen along an old railroad right-of-way. Once you arrive at Hennesee, you can stop for a bite to eat at Gastronomie H1 am See and then cycle back to Meschede. Of course, you can also use your Sauerland Vacationer Ticket on the third day.

Conclusion: Attention, leisure cyclists! A pleasant pace for those with moderate fitness levels.
