The RuhrtalRadweg is not only very scenic, but also has a lot to offer culturally. The RUHR.TOPCARD is the perfect way to combine the two. Whether free admission to various museums or relaxed boat trips on the numerous lakes to the left and right of the RuhrtalRadweg - Variety and fun are guaranteed with this combination. Here are a few examples of how you can add many leisure activities to your RuhrtalRadweg tour by purchasing the RUHR.TOPCARD.
Day 1 Winterberg - Bestwig (approx. 30 km)
The day starts comfortably with a tour from the source of the Ruhr downstream through Olsberg to Bestwig. For a more action-packed start to the tour, you can make a detour to the Fort Fun amusement park. Not only can you expect lots of fun here, but also an exclusive 50% discount on the regular admission price. The park offers a wide range of attractions - whether you are looking for the thrill of the roller coasters or prefer to take it easy, there is something for everyone here.
Day 2 Bestwig - Arnsberg (approx. 33 km)
The next day, you continue in the direction of Meschede. Before you start your tour on the RuhrtalRadweg, we recommend a detour to the Sauerland visitor mine in Ramsbeck (admission free), where you can go up to 300 m underground. From there, you start your cycle tour and cycle towards Arnsberg. Once you arrive, you have a choice: you can either play a relaxing round of minigolf at the Arnsberg Black Light Semester (50% discount) or visit the Sauerland Museum Arnsberg (free admission) to learn more about the history of the region. Afterwards, the picturesque Altstadt invites you to take a leisurely stroll, as you have already reached your destination for the day.
Day 3 Arnsberg - Hagen (approx. 60 km)
The third and longest stage of the day takes you from the Sauerland to the Ruhr metropolis. You start in Arnsberg's Altstadt, which is always worth a visit. After just a few kilometers, the Vosswinkel wild forest awaits you (free admission), where you can learn a lot about the wildlife and forest dwellers. After the zoological lesson, the route takes you via Wickede and Fröndenberg into the Ruhrgebiet to Hagen. There we recommend a visit to the Hagen Open-Air Museum (admission free), the oldest museum of technical history in Germany. This offers you an exciting and interactive end to your day.
Day 4 Hagen - Bochum, Hattingen or Essen (approx. 45 km)
Your day begins in Hagen and you cycle directly towards Bochum. Just a few kilometers away, in Bochum-Dahlhausen, the railroad museum (free admission) awaits you before you reach your destination for today, Essen.
Alternatively, you can treat yourself to a boat trip (admission free) on the Kemnader See and enjoy the panorama before heading to Hattingen. There you can see the beauty of the city for yourself and visit the Henrichshütte (admission free) and take part in a one-hour guided tour of the historic Altstadt.
The third alternative is to visit Bochum's city center. In the German Mining Museum (admission free), there is plenty to discover in addition to the demonstration mine with original machines. The miners are waiting for you! Not far from there is the Zeiss Planetarium Bochum (admission free), where you can relax under the stars before you start the last day.
Day 5 Bochum, Hattingen or Essen - Duisburg (approx. 40 km)
Whether you start in Bochum, Hattingen or Essen, you will always cross the green south of Essen before reaching Mülheim an der Ruhr. Here, Haus Ruhrnatur, the Camera Obscura and the Aquarius Wassermuseum (all three with free admission) are well worth a visit. For the more adventurous among you, a rowing tour through the Ruhrtal on the authentic Viking ship "MüWi" is just the thing (50% discount). On the rest of the way to Duisburg, Oberhausen with its Gasometer (free admission) and SEA LIFE (50% discount) is also a welcome detour before the tour ends in Duisburg. If you haven't done enough shopping so far, you can make up for it at the Centro and buy a few Ruhr souvenirs before you leave. The rest of the route takes you to Duisburg, where you can take a harbor tour with the Weisse Flotte (free admission) in Duisburg harbor or take a tour of the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord (free admission) and soak up some sun before you leave. If you'd like to say hello to our animal friends, Duisburg Zoo (admission free) will give you a warm welcome and take you into the fascinating world of animals.
Perhaps a refreshing beer to round off the day? Then why not take a tour of one of Germany's most famous breweries, the König Brewery, and experience first-hand how your beer is brewed (admission free; please note: online booking required).
Your RuhrtalRadweg tour ends here after five eventful days. We hope you had a lot of fun cycling and were able to enjoy the wide range of offers of the RUHR.TOPCARD to the full. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey home!
