Mystery Tour: Operation River Spirit

A river spirit is up to no good in the Ruhr—but what’s behind it all? That’s what the new “Operation Flussgeist” on the RuhrtalRadweg is all about. You can play easily on your cell phone—no app required, just use your browser, and it’s completely free. About 10 varied and tricky puzzles await families during the bike tour.

The exciting part? Each puzzle station is located at a different spot. Between the puzzles, there are cycling segments along the RuhrtalRadweg from Winterberg to Duisburg. You can choose the length of the tour and your starting point freely. Of course, a tour spanning several days is also possible. This makes the bike tour a varied experience for all cyclists, which can naturally be supplemented with breaks and stops at restaurants as desired.

Before you get started, here are a few helpful tips:

• The puzzle tour is suitable for children in elementary school and older. The puzzles vary in difficulty—feel free to work together as a family to solve the challenges.
• It’s best to have at least two smartphones so you can work on the missions together. That way, you can view the documents and your answers side by side.
• Check your navigation regularly so you don’t miss any of the checkpoints.
• It’s best to follow the digital navigation on the website and use “Google Maps” or “Maps” only in an emergency—neither is designed for bike path navigation. Alternatively, you can easily follow the signs for the RuhrtalRadweg
• Are you completely stuck and don’t want to look directly at the solution? Sometimes the internet can help you find the answer…
• If you need help, use the Help button in the menu.
• Want to go back a step? You can do that using the Help button as well.
