Bicycle breakdown? Flat tire? Forgot essential gear? This happens to the occasional cyclist on the RuhrtalRadweg during their ride. All the better that help is usually just around the corner. That’s because the RuhrtalRadweg also features a well-developed network of bicycle specialists along the route. These service partners are happy to assist before you set out on a ride and are also on hand to offer advice and support along the way. Take, for example, the experts at Zweirad Wierleuker in Arnsberg. Together, they’ve been serving as service partners on the river bike path from Winterberg to Duisburg for 20 years now.

Twenty years ago, at the opening of the RuhrtalRadweg, the owners of Zweirad Wierleuker learned of plans for a new bike path right on their doorstep and didn’t hesitate to get involved. Since then, they’ve been listed as a service partner on the RuhrtalRadweg’s website and in its print materials, making them an integral part of cyclists’ planning. After all, in addition to restaurants and lodging along the route, bike service shops also play an important role.

There are plenty of stories about the bike path and Zweirad Wierleuker: flat tires, squeaky chains, missing rain jackets—it’s not uncommon for cyclists to pop into the spacious store along the bike path during their tour. Especially when cyclists want to press on quickly to reach the day’s destination, things need to move fast. The team is prepared for this. In addition to quickly carrying out necessary repairs or offering advice on purchasing equipment, a few words of encouragement often make all the difference. After all, anyone who’s had a breakdown on a planned ride quickly gets anxious. But getting help fast is usually no problem, and the staff is happy to assist. Incidentally, the two owners haven’t yet cycled the entire RuhrtalRadweg, but they know the routes around Arnsberg well. On weekends, they enjoy using the bike path for a ride with a quick stop along the way. The entire bike path is still on their to-do list, though—until then, they delight in hearing cyclists’ stories and in being part of the many cycling travelers.
