Bergisch Panorama Radweg

The Bergisch Panorama Radweg runs through the Ruhrgebiet, the Bergisches Land, and the Sauerland. The route allows for flexible stage planning. The clear orange signage helps with navigation. The route is characterized by significant engineering feats: fourteen tunnels, viaducts up to forty meters high, and numerous bridges. These structures offer sweeping views of the countryside and glimpses into urban areas, such as Wuppertal. The former railway infrastructure now allows cyclists to explore the region in a unique way. The route through a low-mountain landscape rich in forests and water reveals traces of industrial heritage. Along the way are notable landmarks, including the Müngsten Bridge Park beneath Germany’s highest railway bridge and the Wupper suspension ferry, which requires physical effort to operate. The ascent to Schloss Burg is possible via a cable car that transports non-electric bicycles. Part of the “Route des Wasserquintetts” passes by reservoirs, through Hückeswagen and Wipperfürth. The section from Marienheide to Olpe in the Sauerland region is integrated into the existing network of bike paths. From May through October, the “Bergische FahrradBus” runs on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays between Leverkusen-Opladen and Marienheide. Stops are located in Hückeswagen and Wipperfürth. This service offers cyclists the option to comfortably cover parts of the route by bus.
