At 830 meters above sea level, the source of the Lenne is the highest mountain spring in the Sauerland region. The water emerges from a system of rock formations and soil layers and feeds the river. The spring area features seating that invites visitors to watch the gently flowing water. From this source, the Lenne flows through the Schmallenberg Sauerland and the Olpe district. As the water-richest and thus most significant tributary of the Ruhr, it flows into the Ruhr near Hagen after a course of about 130 kilometers.
