The Nuttlar Slate Mine Adventure Mine has been permanently closed since August 31, 2023. It is an outstanding example of historical mining architecture in the upper Ruhrtal. The mine, an unaltered relic of a bygone era, is characterized by its remarkable intactness. This authentic environment made it possible to recreate the original conditions of slate mining.

Inside the mine, far away from modern infrastructure such as gravel paths, concrete steps or electric lighting, a world underground was revealed. The earlier guided tours led through a landscape of underground lakes, spacious halls and unique slate staircases winding through high corridors. Visitors were given in-depth insights into traditional quarrying methods and the artful processing of slate. Original tools were used to demonstrate the splitting and shaping of the material. This historic site in the Hochsauerland district thus remains an important testimony to regional industrial history.
