The ruins of the Himmelpforten convent, originally founded in 1246 by Cistercian nuns, are a historic site of regional significance. The complex was completely destroyed on May 17, 1943, by the flood wave that followed the collapse of the Möhne Dam. At that time, the convent had already been abandoned for 140 years. Today, a memorial stands on the site where the nuns once lived and worked, commemorating this historic event and highlighting its historical significance.
