The Ruhr has its source at the Ruhrkopf, a 696-meter-high mountain within the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park. A memorial stone and a traffic circle have been placed at the source region, offering a place for contemplation and a short rest. From its source in Winterberg to its mouth in Duisburg, the Ruhr stretches over a length of 219 kilometers. Major routes such as the RuhrtalRadweg and the Rothaarsteig pass close to the source of the Ruhr. The surrounding region presents a characteristic low mountain range landscape with forests and meadows. This backdrop invites you to explore and contemplate the natural surroundings. The Ruhrquellenhütte is just a few minutes' walk from the source. There you can stop for refreshments, practice skiing or test mountain carts.
