Ramsbeck Visitor Mine in the Sauerland Region

The Ramsbeck Visitor Mine in the Sauerland region offers a comprehensive overview of the region’s mining history. The above-ground museum showcases the evolution of mining, from the medieval pick and hammer to the large drilling rigs of the 20th century. Here, visitors can learn how the miners’ working environment was structured and what tools were used.

A central feature is the journey into the Eickhoff Tunnel aboard an original mine train. After a ride of about ten minutes, a tour underground begins. Visitors can explore the underground double-drum conveyor, the 420-meter-deep blind shaft, and the ore-dumping area.

The Ramsbeck Mining Trail begins right at the visitor mine. The 11-kilometer loop trail features 41 informational panels that explain how mining has profoundly shaped the Ramsbeck landscape and provide insights into industrial history. An audio guide is available to accompany visitors on their underground tours.
