The Chinese Garden Qian Yuan, embedded in the Botanical Garden of the Ruhr University Bochum, covers an area of 1,000 square meters. The name "Qian Yuan" refers to the poet Tao Qian, who lived in the 4th and 5th centuries and became famous for his tale of the "Peach Blossom Spring", which describes a harmonious society. The garden is designed in the southern Chinese style, with materials such as natural stone, brick and wood dominating in subtle colors such as white, black, grey and dark red. This design reflects the traditional aesthetics of the gardens of scholars and artists. A large pond takes up half of the garden, while an impressive rock landscape made of 600 tons of stone completes the picture. The garden changes its appearance with the seasons. Due to weather-related damage, the Förderverein Chinesischer Garten e.V. Bochum was founded in 2000, which takes care of the maintenance and offers regular guided tours.
