Museum of German Inland Waterway Shipping

The Museum of German Inland Waterway Transport in Duisburg is one of the most important museums in the Ruhrgebiet and offers comprehensive insights into the world of inland waterway transport. Housed in a historic Art Nouveau indoor swimming pool in the Ruhrort district, the museum presents an impressive collection of maritime exhibits across three floors. The permanent exhibition explores the technological, economic, and social history of German inland waterway shipping from the Stone Age to the present day. Visitors can explore detailed models and interactive multimedia installations that vividly illustrate the development of shipping. A special focus is placed on life and work on board, complemented by topics such as passenger shipping, the “Romance of the Rhine,” and the history of the Duisburg-Ruhrort ports.
