The Museum of German Inland Navigation in Duisburg is one of the most important museums in the Ruhrgebiet and offers comprehensive insights into the world of inland navigation. Housed in a listed Art Nouveau indoor swimming pool in the Ruhrort district, the museum presents an impressive collection of maritime exhibits on three floors. The permanent exhibition sheds light on the technical, economic and social history of German inland shipping from the Stone Age to the present day. Visitors can experience detailed models and interactive multimedia installations that vividly illustrate the development of shipping. A special focus is placed on life and work on board, supplemented by topics such as passenger shipping, Rhine romance and the history of the Duisburg-Ruhrort ports. The museum also offers insights into the German canal system as well as river and lock construction. A tour of one of the world's largest inland ports rounds off the experience.
