The LWL Museum Zeche Hannover in Bochum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of mining. The striking Malakow Tower, reminiscent of a medieval castle, was in operation from 1857 to 1973 and was used to extract coal. In the machine hall, the historic steam hoisting engine from 1893 is put into operation during demonstrations. It is considered the oldest example of its kind in the Ruhrgebiet that can still be seen at its original location. For young visitors, the “Zeche Knirps” mining playground offers a special experience.
