Kemnader See, the newest of the six Ruhr reservoirs, was completed by the Ruhrverband in 1979 after three years of construction and officially opened in September 1980. It is one of the most popular recreational and tourist destinations in Bochum. The surrounding area offers a wide range of activities such as hiking, biking, and inline skating on the paved Ruhr-Inline trail. The lake is a central gathering spot for water sports enthusiasts, including sailors and surfers. The WestUfer windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding school, as well as the World Of Wind kitebuggy and beach sailing school, offer a wide range of courses for children and adults. The covered beach sports and event venue blue:beach creates a beach atmosphere in any weather and provides space for events and sports activities. For a more relaxed alternative, take a cruise on the passenger ship MS Kemnade or visit the StrandDeck Kemnade, where relaxation and enjoyment take center stage.
