Kemnader See, the youngest of the six Ruhr reservoirs, was completed by the Ruhrverband in 1979 after three years of construction and was officially opened in September 1980. It is one of the most popular leisure and excursion destinations in Bochum. The surrounding area offers a wide range of activities such as hiking, cycling and inline skating on the asphalted Ruhr-Inline route. The lake is a central meeting point for water sports enthusiasts, including sailors and surfers. The WestUfer windsurfing and stand-up paddle school and the World Of Wind kite buggy and beach sailing school offer a wide range of courses for children and adults. The covered beach sports and event location blue:beach provides a beach atmosphere whatever the weather and offers space for events and sporting activities. A relaxing alternative is a round trip on the MS Kemnade passenger ship or a visit to the StrandDeck Kemnade, where the focus is on relaxation and enjoyment.
