Lake Hengsteysee
, which is directly adjacent to the Hengsteysee,is one of six reservoirs in the Ruhrgebiet that are operated by the Ruhrverband. It follows the course of the Ruhr and is located between Hagen, Herdecke and Dortmund.
On sunny, warm days, the Hengsteysee is a popular excursion destination.
In the surrounding area, there are beautiful playgrounds where children of all ages can enjoy themselves and barbecue areas to spend the day relaxing. There is a 6.5 km long footpath and cycle path around the Hengsteysee, which is ideal for walking, jogging, cycling or inline skating. Along the lake path you will find benches and small restaurants that invite you to take a break and linger.

If a pedalo is too small for you, you can also switch to the "Freiherr
Stein".
The "Freiherr vom Stein" passenger boat operates on the reservoir from the first of May to mid-October. It docks at Schiffswinkel, the Hengstey outdoor pool, Hohensyburg Island and the mouth of the Lenne
. Would you prefer to take a longer walk? Then simply follow the Ruhrtalweg towards Harkortsee, which is at least as beautiful as Hengsteysee.
