Properties:
The Elsebad in Schwerte’s Elsetal is a community swimming pool with a long history. Opened in 1939 as the Elsetal Outdoor Pool, the facility was reclaimed following its closure in 1993 through a citizens’ initiative, donations, and volunteer work. Reconstruction and modernization followed in 1997–98; since 1998, a support association, a nonprofit operating company, and numerous volunteers have been responsible for its operation.
The facility includes a heated 50-meter stainless-steel pool with a diving board and slide, a large children’s pool, four hectares of sunbathing areas along the Elsebach stream, and play areas for outdoor activities. Beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, bocce, table tennis, lawn chess, and other activities define its character as a sports and recreation destination. With KinoKarren, music and cultural evenings, as well as the historical games in the Argeste “play village,” the Elsebad extends beyond traditional swimming operations. As a result, the site stands for summer swimming culture, community engagement, and a piece of Schwerte’s city history.
