Drinking water has been extracted from three horizontal filter wells at the Boker Heid waterworks since 2000. A drinking water educational trail, which is located right next to the waterworks, explains exactly how this happens. The exciting history of drinking water production with underground treatment is presented on 16 display boards. The processes from water extraction and treatment technology to water distribution are explained in an easy-to-understand way. In addition, the connections between precipitation, drinking water supply and environmental influences are clearly explained. A rest area with seating and a table invites you to enjoy a picnic.
The rest area and drinking water adventure trail are open all year round.
Take the A 33 freeway to the Pad.-Schloß Neuhaus exit; then head towards Rheda-Wiedenbrück / Delbrück. Drive past the Lippesee and Paderborn-Sande. At the first set of traffic lights, turn left onto Graf-Meerveldt-Straße (L 815) in the direction of Lippstadt. After about 200 meters turn left into the street "Im Dorfe". Follow this road - past the church - for about 700 meters until you reach the waterworks.
