The Bochum Railway Museum is now one of the largest museums of its kind in Germany. The former railroad depot is located directly on the banks of the Ruhr, right next to the RuhrtalRadweg cycle path. Over 100 years of railroad history await you here. Immerse yourself in the exciting stories on and off the tracks. Experience in an authentic atmosphere what it meant to keep an entire region moving with water and coal.

Water tower, roundhouse, turntable - the listed buildings and facilities at the Bochum Railway Museum were once used to prepare steam locomotives for their next journey. This also included turning them back in the right direction. Locomotives are still turning at the railroad museum today - often at weekends and on public holidays.

Visit the driver's cab of a steam locomotive or take a seat in the wooden class of a 100-year-old passenger coach. Discover proven technologies and groundbreaking innovations. For example, battery-powered vehicles could already look back on many years of experience on the railroad 70 years ago.

Travel in style on Sundays and public holidays: A historic railcar, also known as the "Schweineschnäuzchen" by its friends, travels between Bochum-Dahlhausen S-Bahn station and the Railway Museum. Enjoy an unobstructed view over the shoulder and watch the staff at work. The light railroad with its open wagons then awaits you in the museum. Take a tour of the museum grounds and experience the diversity of the railroad as a means of travel and transportation.

An absolute highlight is a ride on the historic museum train. Look forward to a travel experience that you will not soon forget. Pulled by a steam locomotive that is over 100 years old or a diesel locomotive that is 60 years old, you take a seat in lavishly restored carriages from the 1920s to 1960s. It travels on selected trains through the Ruhrtal. A unique mixture of castle romance and industrial culture awaits you here. Whether castle ruins, smelting works or collieries - there is something new to discover at every stop.
