The Bochum Railway Museum, an important museum, is located in a former railroad depot on the banks of the Ruhr, close to the RuhrtalRadweg cycle path. It sheds light on over 100 years of railroad history and the importance of water and coal for the regional development of rail transport.

Historic facilities such as the roundhouse and turntable demonstrate steam locomotive maintenance. The exhibition presents technologies and innovations, including the driver's cab of a steam locomotive, historic passenger carriages and the development of battery-powered vehicles.

A historic railcar, known as the "Schweineschnäuzchen", runs between Bochum-Dahlhausen S-Bahn station and the museum. A light railroad offers rides across the grounds, illustrating the diversity of the railroad as a means of transportation.

A ride on the historic museum train is a special experience. Pulled by historic locomotives, it has restored carriages. The Ruhrtal routes showcase castle romance and industrial culture with their characteristic buildings.
