St. Ludgerus Treasury
The St. Ludgerus Treasury preserves the rest of the once extensive treasures of the former Benedictine Abbey of Werden, which was founded around 800. The most important group consists of early medieval treasures. There are also numerous works of gold and silversmithing as well as ivory carvings, sculptures and reliefs, paintings, manuscripts and vestments.

You can reach the St. Ludgerus Werden treasury by car via the A 52, exit Essen-Haarzopf. Follow the B 224 (Alfredstraße, Bredeneyer Straße) and then turn left over the Ruhr towards Werden in the direction of the town center (Abteistraße). You can already see the tower of St. Ludgerus Basilica. There is a parking lot right next to the treasury. You can reach the treasury by public transport with the express bus line 19 from Essen main station (stop 7), direction Heiligenhaus. From the Werdener Markt stop, you can reach the treasure chamber in approx. 2 minutes on foot. Alternatively, the S-Bahn line S6 will take you from Essen main station (platform 12) to Werden. From Werden station, walk in the direction of the town center for approx. 7 minutes to the Basilica of St. Ludgerus and the Treasury.
