Assinghausen is known as a renowned rose village, where the successful cultivation of hardy rose varieties demonstrates these plants’ ability to adapt to the climatic conditions of the Sauerland region. Over 150 rose varieties that withstand the cold cycles reach their full bloom in the summer. Four specific Rosenwege, including the loop trails “Flammentanz” and “Rosa Sancta,” wind through the village. They integrate the expertly maintained private gardens and public flower beds into a cohesive botanical landscape. Official recognition as a “Rose Village” was granted on July 6, 2007, by the Society of German Rose Lovers, making Assinghausen one of only six German villages to hold this title, alongside Nöggenschwiel, Schmitshausen, Seppenrade, Steinfurth, and Löhndorf. The historic townscape, with its half-timbered houses, complements the floral scenery.
