African Art in Witten’s Muttental

One of the most significant exhibitions of contemporary sculpture from Zimbabwe can be explored in the historic setting of Steinhausen Castle in Witten. The SHONA-ART Gallery presents the largest collection of African art in North Rhine-Westphalia here.

Monumental sculptures made of recycled metal meet international stone sculpture from Zimbabwe. These handcrafted, one-of-a-kind pieces made of serpentine are part of an internationally renowned art movement whose works have already been exhibited in major collections and museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Musée Rodin in Paris.

For over 25 years, the SHONA-ART Gallery has been showcasing extraordinary art for the home and garden. The castle gardens, a converted barn, and the small art shop in the historic gabled house dating from 1607 provide a special setting for this—right in the heart of the idyllic Muttental valley, nestled between forests, old coal mines, and the Ruhr River.
