Holzwickede is located on the edge of the eastern Ruhr region between the cities of Dortmund and Unna. The Emscher river rises here, today a symbol of structural change in the Ruhr region.

At the beautifully restored Emscherquellhof, you can marvel at the development of the "Emscher conversion" intergenerational project. But the Emscher community has even more to offer. Despite its proximity to the Ruhr conurbation, Holzwickede has retained its idyllic charm. For example, the so-called Hilgenbaum, which still adorns the municipality's coat of arms, is well worth seeing. In the past, justice was dispensed under the Hilgenbaum; it also served as a signpost and "notice board" for the carters of the time. After a long cycle tour, cyclists can put their feet up in the 30,000 square meter park of the Haus Operdicke moated castle or enjoy a refreshment in the café there. Visitors will find a wide range of restaurants in the town center, not far from the historic town hall on the market square.
We look forward to your visit!
