Free tap water for everyone!

Climate-friendly cycling and drinking tap water.

There's nothing like a refreshing drink during a relaxing break at one of the many bike-friendly accommodation providers along the RuhrtalRadweg! But what about the supply of drinks during the ride? Every five seconds, 1,400 single-use plastic bottles of mineral water end up in the bin. The RuhrtalRadweg would like to make an active contribution to avoiding unnecessary plastic waste. Together with the non-profit association a tip: tap e.V., which has been campaigning for the use of tap water as drinking water for more than ten years, the RuhrtalRadweg has become the first tap water-friendly long-distance cycle route!

At over 100 drinking fountains and refill stations set up by cycle-friendly hosts along the route, you can fill up your drinking bottle with refreshing, top-quality tap water free of charge for your journey and thus make an active contribution to climate protection without sacrifice or effort, while also saving money. You will find the stations approximately every ten kilometers along the entire RuhrtalRadweg. Of course, we are still working on attracting even more businesses as refill stations and also on creating additional drinking fountains.

You can find all the drinking places along the RuhrtalRadweg here on the map and below in the list. There is a distinction between these two types of drinking places:

• Drinking fountains
  • Publicly accessible, permanently installed drinking fountain
  • Accessibility may be temporarily restricted seasonally or for maintenance purposes

• Refill stations
  • RuhrtalRadweg partner businesses where you can refill your bottles with tap water free of charge
  • You can recognize them by the "refill station" sticker, e.g. on the entrance door
