From time to time there are also roadworks on the RuhrtalRadweg. We have compiled all known measures here so that you can inform yourself in advance. Detour are always set up and signposted on site. The detour are not included in the GPX track to avoid confusion caused by too many different GPX tracks in circulation.
In case of flooding of the Ruhr, you will find the corresponding flood bypasses here. Please note that the ruhrtalFähre Hardenstein can also stop operating at short notice during the off-season if the water level is too high. The daily updated ferry times can be found here: https://www.wabembh.de/
In addition to construction sites directly on the RuhrtalRadweg, there may also be closures or cancellations when traveling by train. You can find all the information we know about this HERE.

The RuhrtalRadweg is being renovated between Wehrstapel and Meschede. Period of closure: 15.05.2025 to 31.07.2025.
Due to a bridge construction project in Oeventrop, the RuhrtalRadweg is not passable throughout. Please use the temporary Kirchstraße bridge (dismount and push). Then use the Widayweg road (if necessary, dismount briefly here too).
Construction of the new pedestrian and cycle bridge in Wickede (Ruhr) has started. The entire construction phase will last until 2027. The long construction period will be compensated for with a new wide bridge that will make it easy to cycle on.
Please watch out for construction traffic and do not cycle too fast around the construction site.
In Iserlohn, there may be short-term closures on the main route of the RuhrtalRadweg. An alternative route is signposted locally and leads via the districts of Hennen and Rheinen or via junctions 30, 29, 27 to 25. From here, the RuhrtalRadweg will follow the previous route again.
In the long term, the RuhrtalRadweg will be moved closer to the Ruhr here and planning is already underway.
Closure and detour of the RuhrtalRadweg between KP51 & 53 or 54
Period of the closure: 16.06.2025 - unknown
Unfortunately, the "Stauseebogen" road must be closed for the time being due to an impending collapse (old mine). The detour will continue along Wuppertaler Straße via Kampmannbrücke without any problems. Before the next bridge at Baldeneysee, turn diagonally down to the right near KP54 to rejoin the RuhrtalRadweg.
Due to construction work on the Karl Lehr Bridge in Duisburg-Kasslerfeld and on the Ruhr weir, there will be a closure of several years at the end of the RuhrtalRadweg, both at the weir itself and under the bridge on Ruhrorter Straße. Unfortunately, the large-scale renovations are beyond our control and a cycle path must unfortunately be subordinate to such projects. As all possible bypasses were not optimal and attractive and do not meet the requirements of a 4* quality cycle path, the RuhrtalRadweg will be rerouted for the duration of the construction sites, which will last several years.
The new route now branches off at Emmericher Straße and leads via Duisburg-Duissern directly to the Buckelbrücke bridge in Duisburg's inner harbor, where you can end your tour comfortably in one of the numerous restaurants. The route has been specially signposted and even resurfaced in places. In addition, tourist information boards with overview maps have been installed and our GPX tracks have been adapted. This new, temporary finish point provides you with an attractive touristic conclusion to your tour. For all those who would like to continue cycling to the Rhine Orange, there are also route suggestions from the inner harbor to the mouth of the Ruhr (can also be seen on the two signs on site):
Due to its new asphalting, the previously gravel section between Dellwig and Ruhrstr. must be closed from 15.04. to probably 04.05.2024 and diverted south of the Ruhr during this time. Instead of using junction 37, travel downstream directly to junction 22 (Ruhrstr., on the Iserlohn side of the river) or continue upstream towards junction 21 (south of Fröndenberg, on the Menden side).
