Hagen

Hagen, the "city of four rivers" the Sauerland and Ruhr regions, is a wonderful green city. Whoever visits Hagen for the first time is pleasantly surprised by the uniquely beautiful and unmistakable landscape. Hagen is lively and varied and has a lot to offer for adventurous cyclists.

The city's location in the middle of nature and the associated title of "North Rhine-Westphalia's greenest metropolis" contribute to the quality of life, as do a varied and sophisticated cultural life, a wide range of sports, a diverse culinary offering, excellent shopping and recreational opportunities as well as numerous events and leisure activities. Hagen's cultural landscape also offers an exciting blend of tradition and modernity. Special attractions are the theatre, which is over 100 years old and still proudly regards itself as a "Bürgertheater" [people's theatre], and the Hagen Art Quarter, which unites two important art museums under one roof. Hohenlimburg Castle is definitely worth visiting as it is the only surviving hilltop castle in Westphalia that towers like a fairytale castle high up on the Schlossberg hill in the Hohenlimburg district of Hagen. Hohenhof, an art nouveau work of art and a true gem, the idyllic Werdringen moated castle and the LWL open-air museum for crafts and technology on the southern outskirts of Hagen are also worth a visit.

Hohenhof - Museum des Hagener Impuls

The Eppenhausen district of Hagen boasts a true architectural highlight: the residence of the family of Karl Ernst Osthaus, built by Henry van de Velde. Today it is one of the rare works of Art Nouveau art in Europe.
