Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung - KUNSTPAUSE

The Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation in Herdecke aims to promote culture, support commitment and preserve values.

NRW Culture Minister Ute Schäfer called the foundation a "jewel for the region" during her visit.
In addition to the emphasis on music and musical education, the fields of sport, education, science, social affairs and monument protection in Westphalia are also supported.
The Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation also annually awards music scholarships to exceptional young talents. Regular classical, jazz and world music concert series are held in the Werner Richard Hall of the Foundation, such as 'Masters of Tomorrow', 'Best of NRW' and 'Masters from all over the World'. WDR often uses the excellent acoustics for recordings.

The art sponsorship area (Dr. Carl Dörken Galerie) includes the museum's own collection, which deals with the phenomenon of colour. Works from the 'Colour as Colour' collection are made available to museums on permanent loan. In a second funding line, the Foundation purchases works by young artists to enable them to take part in exhibitions, catalogues or to study.

On weekends, the KUNSTPAUSE especially invites cyclists to spend a KUNSTPAUSE [art break] with a little refreshment in the Dr. Carl Dörken Gallery in Herdecke. The location directly on the Ruhr Valley cycle path with a 1-minute walk from the Herdecker viaduct (signposted) and wonderful panoramic views from the gallery over the Ruhr floodplains is perfect for this.
The KUNSTPAUSE has parking facilities for bicycles, seats in front of the artworks, refreshments, coffee/tea and a snack.
Dr. Carl Dörken Gallery offers a guided tour of the respective exhibition on Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m., which is included in the admission fee of EUR 2. Admission is free for pupils and students. The opening hours for the KUNSTPAUSE are during a current exhibition Saturdays from 14 - 17 o'clock and Sundays from 11 - 17 o'clock. Before concerts in the adjoining Werner Richard Hall, the gallery is open until 6:30 p.m.

"Art thrives on the confrontation with the public," quotes Dr. Jochen Plaßmann, Chairman of the Foundation. Works of art have a direct effect on our senses. We look at them, feel addressed, touched or irritated. The subsequent dialogue between us as observers and the work of art can be manifold: simple or complex, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer, with undiscovered talents or established artists.

Combine your bike tour with an impressive KUNSTPAUSE in the Dr. Carl Dörken Gallery. The current exhibition in the gallery on weekends until Sunday 29.06.2014 is: 'certain colours - painting by Willi Otremba'. An artist talk with Willi Otremba will take place on Sunday, 18 May 2014 at 11 am.
In the summer months, visitors can expect a postcard exhibition on the occasion of the Herdeck city anniversary with historical motifs. From 27 September, an exhibition of work by Prof. Jan Kolata takes place.
