Kahler Asten
Pay a courtesy call to the “King of the Sauerland mountains”. The Kahler Asten will reward you with spectacular views. NRW’s second-highest mountain is an Eldorado for hikers, bikers, Nordic walkers and skiers.
Beschreibung
Clouds hang above the valley - but on the Kahler Asten, the sun is shining. This isn’t a rare event on the mountain, which is about 842 meters high. After storm Kyrill, there are views here on clear days that almost match those of the Alps. Bikers particularly love the many bends in the road on the way here. At the top, there is a mountain restaurant with a viewing tower. Due to the climate here, which is determined by westerly winds from the Atlantic, the German weather service has set up a weather station here, which can be viewed by visitors. The permanent exhibition of the LWL Museum für Naturkunde (the LWL natural history museum) is also worth a visit. All around, visitors can hike through real high-altitude heathland.
parking costs 1,50 € for 2 hours.
